I have finally had to admit I just can’t afford to start with every thing new. I can’t afford an Eglu (although I desperately want one!) and my husband, who is the most supportive husband in the world, has said that he will only continue to be so supportive if this new venture costs a minimum amount of money.
To that end I put an advert in my local FREECYCLE this week and am just back from picking up food and drink containers and an extremely large nesting box. It is so large I haven’t even had a chance to look at it as the woman’s husband and son put it in the car without me inspecting it. It isn’t quite what I wanted but I think if I start off with the freebies then OH will see that I am serious about this and relax a little later on.
Other news is that I have found not one but TWO sources for ex-battery hens in my area. I haven’t contacted them yet but know-people-who-know-people who have taken birds from both farms so I should be able to get at least one or two ex-bats among a couple of non-ex-bats
The next step will be to section off a part of the garden with a run, put the bits and bobs in and then wait until the end of July to organise the birrrrrrrrds yay! How exciting is THIS??
