This evening we let the chickens out for their first free range. The weather was good enough for us to be able to sit out with them, monitoring where they went.
Buffy and Summer didn’t bother with our kind invitation, instead enjoying the freedom of the run. Cake and Sydney went on long expeditions to the other side of the garden, Lacey scuttled back and forwards and Hetty came out, strutted around for a while then went back in fairly quickly. Sydney proved to be the problem when it came to us wanting to leave the garden and get them back in to the run. We *chased* her for ages and only managed to get her to behave when we started to wave big sticks at her!
It was lovely to see them out, especially when Sydney found a bush to go and scrape under. They pecked at my sweet pea and loads of weeds but were really more on an exploration mission than a forage. We’ll do it again soon.
