I’ve just been to shut the girls up after they put themselves to bed after a wee bit of free ranging round the garden.
I found Izzie sitting in the dark on the bars, in the corner, nestled right beside Buffy – which is strange as Buffy (if she notices Izzie) would be the one prone to pecking her. My thoughts were “Ahhhh, that’s nice of you Buffy!”
There was something *not right* about the way Izzie was sitting – with her head hanging low so I took a longer look. There was a darkness to her comb.
Finally I had to put the light on and found her comb had been bleeding, the blood had been wiped on the back and side of the shed and it looked like the blood was still flowing.
Now. . . I have her in the kitchen, cleaned up, clucking as the dog if he dares to come in, merrily scoffing down some mixed corn (tut! AFTER SHE BRUSHED HER TEETH!) and sipping on water with a dab of honey in it. She is FINE!
I am worried about the blood (we couldn’t get the congealed bits off her comb) attracting more pecking in the morning though.
We don’t really have quarantine quarters and I would prefer not to stick her on her own but I am worried enough to think about keeping her apart from the others tomorrow in case the sight of blood will make the rest attack her.
(I think she is quite happy to move in to the kitchen though
This is a photo of her when she saw the cutlery drawer left open – it didn’t take her long to scoot up there!)
