Blink Blink . . .

I had to go to Belfast today. Driving along the Motorway there was a Gantry sign saying SIGHTTEST with weird letters underneath, like VGHS and FDSR - nothing that made any sense.

Just in case they were doing some kind of bizarre check up on drivers' eyesight I tried to memorise the letters.

Then came a second one not long after. More letters. More memorising.

On the way out of town I realised it said SIGNTEST not SIGHTTEST.

You FOOL Susan.

Sigh.

Hot on the heels of how cold it was here a while back, here is a photo to prove how warm it is now.

Yea, we think there is water getting into the car electrics. There are only 185,000 miles on it. We are hoping it won't sizzle out any time soon.

OK I Give Up. . .

Jessica arrived home last night with a Fireside Quiz. Have I ever told you that I hate these things? I hate anything that makes a fool out of me and I simply am crap at them!

After sitting as a family for ages and ages we managed to find all the answers bar one. Ok, I may have cheated a little with Google!) So it is over to you now - I am SURE you will know this.

The title is: Song Titles With Colours In Them

The clue is: U.A.V.M.

Any ideas?

Smarter Than The Average Bear . . .

A couple of weeks ago I bought a new muffin tray for baking muffins in. It wasn't advertised as a muffin tray. It was some kind of foreign bread thing but it looked mighty like a muffin tray to me and the first time Jessica and I made muffins and used it they turned out really well.

On Saturday I had the idea of using one of those ready mixes for chocolate fudge cake tand dividing the mixture into this tray, making four individual cakes rather than one large one. The mix was only £1.70-something so if it didn't turn out there wasn't much lost.

Jessica watched me start this up, but she wasn't really paying attention to getting ready for her 3pm pick-up for a birthday party at the ice-skating rink.

They came out ok. But when I tried to take them out of the tin, they kinda broke apart and they never made it as far as getting iced. David had one, I had two halves (ie one) and then Iain polished off the third one. Jessica's one was put aside for her return much later. So much later in fact that the bun had been put soooo away that she didn't see it.

I kinda ate it the next day with my coffee, with a "what she doesn't know won't harm her" theory. This is a saying I have heard Jessica say in the past, by the way.

Last night, Jessica came running into the kitchen, all excited. "Ohhhh, remember on Saturday you were making buns? What happened to them?"

"Errrr. they didn't really work out very well, to be honest."

"Huh huh." She raised an eyebrow at me. "What you really mean is that YOU ate them all!"

Dude! Call a spade a spade, why don't you!

Oh No You Didn’t!

The other night I realised that I hadn't seen the whole of The Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody video so pulled it up on You Tube to let Jessica watch it with me. She really didn't like it, didn't understand it at all. It took me a few seconds to realise that she had no idea about Queen's original video, so by the miracle of t'internet we watched that next. And then we went on to watch 'I Want To Break Free' and a couple of other ones. We watched quite a few actually, singing along to the ones we knew.

Jessica became extremely confused though. Where was the GIRL singer? Didn't Queen HAVE a girl singer? Why had they picked the name QUEEN if it had a boy lead singer?? I ducked out of that one I'm afraid, I'll add that to the list of ones I will explain to her 'later.' Along with the news that Freddie is dead. Freddie DIES???

Anyway, that kinda leads me on to my next point, if you will excuse a sideways step. You may need to know a little about Iris Robinson here and here before you go any further.

I heard the infamous radio program in which she said:

"I have a very lovely psychiatrist who works with me in my offices and his Christian background is that he tries to help homosexuals trying to turn away from what they are engaged in."

At the time I had an image of her "very lovely psychiatrist" banging his head off his desk as she pointed towards the Bible for words like "abomination" and "sin."

This afternoon I saw this Facebook group. It has been set-up to:

". . . get the iconic song Mrs Robinson - made famous by the 1960's hit The Graduate - to number 1 in next Sunday's chart in honour of Northern Ireland's disgraced first lady, Iris Robinson. The naughty little minx. . ."

Mrs Robinson

I know it isn't very likely that the song will make it to number one - not without a major thrust with-in the rest of the UK. But I have bought my copy. Just in case one more makes a difference. It is only 79p after all. And it IS sooooo apt. Isn't it?

EDIT:

Just found this :D

Mrs Robinson song enjoys revival

Tuesday, 12 January 2010

Simon and Garfunkel classic Mrs Robinson is enjoying a popularity revival due to an internet campaign to push the song to number one - "in honour of Northern Ireland's disgraced First Lady".

A campaign group mobilised on Facebook to propel the song from Dustin Hoffman movie The Graduate to the top spot has almost 13,000 members.

The film tells the story of a college graduate who embarks on an affair with an older woman.

A political crisis has erupted over Iris Robinson's private life and financial affairs after it was disclosed she had an affair with a toyboy lover young enough to be her grandson. First Minister Peter Robinson has temporarily stepped down.

The track climbed to number 23 in Amazon.co.uk's "bestsellers in MP3 songs".

The power of internet campaigns was shown at Christmas when Rage Against The Machine were sent to number one - at the expense of X Factor winner Joe McElderry.
